Paris, Spring-Summer 2012 – A revolution in the male wardrobe: this is the suggestion of the designer Rick Owens in the most interesting show of the second day of Paris fashion week. In fact, it’s not from today that Owens’ clothes cause estrangement because of his futuristic, androgynous, almost alien aesthetic. But the fact is that the designer continues to surprise as he did this morning at the Palais Omnisports de Bercy.

In his new collection it’s the complex set of overlapping tunics with skirts that draw the attention and repel at the same time. Not because men are wearing skirts, but because the clothes generally makes the body look elongated. This is what makes his work so interesting and new. His customers – a legion of modern and young people that make his shows look like a rave – prove that his creations look better on people who have more than 1.80 m.

Owens, as well as the other designers that presented today (Dries Van Noten, Alexis Mabille and Jean Paul Gaultier), proposed striped clothes of all kinds and, as it seems, will give long life to a trend that has been present for some time.

Among the young designers the highlight of the day was the Korean Juun J., who presented a collection focused on impeccable tailored pieces, with collars and lapels deconstructed and combined with metal accessories. It is very interesting to follow the work of new designers in Paris, especially because until recently it was said that the city had a lack of new blood, particularly in menswear.

Au revoir, until tomorrow!
